Change of Grade(s)
Students should review their end-of-semester final grades closely to ensure their accuracy. If an error or discrepancy should occur, the student should contact the appropriate instructor immediately. A student who wishes to challenge a course grade must first discuss the matter with the instructor.
Deadline: Student have one year from the date from the final grade assigned to challenge that grade.
Questions about an assignment grade during the semester? This page covers challenging a final course grade. If you have a question about a grading policy or a specific assignment grade while the course is still in progress, raise it with your instructor right away — that conversation doesn't require the formal process below.
How to Appeal a Final Grade
Step 1: Review Your Grades
Check your final grade as soon as it posts. If you believe there is an error or discrepancy,
contact the appropriate instructor right away — don't wait.
Step 2: Discuss with your Instructor
Before any formal appeal can move forward, you must first discuss the grade with the
instructor. Many concerns are resolved at this stage once the grading is explained
or a recording error is corrected. It's a good idea to keep a written record of this
conversation (dates, what was discussed, and the outcome) in case you need it later
for a formal appeal.
If the instructor is no longer with the College or otherwise unavailable, contact the division chair or dean over that area to move the conversation forward.
Step 3: Final a Written Appeal
If the matter is not resolved with the instructor, submit a written appeal to the Registrar's (Student Records) office. The Registrar or someone in Student Records can help you understand the process
before you file.
Step 4: Further Appeals
Additional appeals are directed through the appropriate administrator, following the
process outlined in College policy. The Registrar will explain your right to appeal
after a determination has been made after Step 3. More Info on the Appeals process,
