J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy is but one of several works on display at the PJC English Department as part of Banned Books Week. Students can guess which of the books has not been banned for a chance to win prizes. Posted or edited: 09.28.09 ... PJC Information Services In observance of Banned Books Week, Sept. 26 — Oct. 3, PJC students have a chance to win prizes by guessing which of a selection of books has not been banned in the past. “All students are invited to check out the English Department display case on the Paris campus, or the display at the PJC libraries in Paris, Sulphur Springs or Greenville,” said Library Services Director Carl Covert, “and pick which book you believe has not been banned. Correct answers will be entered in a drawing for fabulous prizes.” The contest begins Sept. 28 and ends Oct. 7. The drawing will be Oct. 8, at 3 p.m. in the Rheudasil Learning Center on the Paris campus. There, movies made from banned books will be shown all day in the library, and refreshments will be served at around 9 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. In Greenville, movies will be shown all day on Oct. 7, with refreshments in the morning. In Sulphur Springs, no movies will be shown, but there will be morning refreshments on Oct. 8, the day of the prize drawing. Banned books also will be on display in both Greenville and Sulphur Springs libraries to assist students in entering the contest. |
