Paris Junior College nursing graduates and their friends and families filled the First Baptist Church in downtown Paris Friday afternoon for the pinning ceremony marking the conclusion of their student life.

After opening words from PJC Director of Health Occupations Marcia Putnam, keynote speaker and former PJC nursing instructor Joyce Bookout addressed the audience on some of the first emotions experienced by the nursing students.

“The first four-hour class scared them to death,” Bookout said, “then came the lab on hand-washing, and they thought it would be easy. Little did they know they did not really know how to wash their hands. But they learned ... they learned, and they’ve grown into fine nurses who are a credit to Paris Junior College.”

Four special awards were given. The Student Choice Award went to Danielle Elmore of Cumby. The Best Clinical Student Award went to Delisa Brooks of Mount Vernon. Rhonda Walker of Sulphur Springs won the Metamorphosis Award. Cynthia Davenport-Herbst of Paris was recognized for academic achievement.
