Paris Junior College’s Continuing Education Department will offer a selection of classes during November.
Paris Campus
- The How to Start Your Own Business seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6. This free session will include handouts for take-home review and study as well as a feasibility questionnaire to help determine whether a business idea will work or not.
- The Microsoft Office 2007 class will be held twice during November. One session will meet from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., each Monday and Wednesday, Nov. 2-11. An alternate class will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday, Nov. 16-19. This class lets the participant choose which program to study including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint or Publisher. This is a self-paced class where students proceed at their own speed through the course material.
- A Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 Essentials class will meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., each Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 3-12. This class enables participants to create visually dynamic presentations.
- The Driver’s Education class is approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety, and is open to students at least 15 years of age. A birth certificate, verification of enrollment, and social security card must be provided. The class meets from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Nov. 2 through Dec. 1.
- The Defensive Driving class is offered by Paris Junior College #067 in accordance with the standards established by the National Traffic Safety Institute of Texas Inc., under license #C0297, and consists of six hours of classroom instruction. Te class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 16-17.
- The Nurse Aide class is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Nov. 2-18. This class offers preparation for basic care providers in long-term care facilities.
- The Basic Life Support (CPR) class, approved by the American Heart Association, will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 9-10.
- The Basic Life Support (CPR) Recertification for Health Professionals will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon on Nov. 13. This is an update and review course for current CPR certified cardholders. Written examination and successful demonstration of skills is required. The American Heart Association certified this class.
- A Medication Aide Update will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 19. The content of this course fulfills the annual renewal requirements for certified medication aides according to specifications of the Texas Department of Health. Med Aides should take this class one month before their card expires.
- An eight-hour pre-service child care training is scheduled on an individual basis by calling 903-782-0447. This training is required of all new employees in regulated child care facilities. Before employment in a daycare center, applicants must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Coaching for Success will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 6. This session introduces skills for guiding individuals and teams toward achieving successful results. Registration deadline is one week prior to the class date.
- The Kids Hurt Too seminar will be given from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 14. This seminar is designed to help parents understand the needs of their children throughout the process of divorce.
- The Digital Camera class will meet from 9 a.m. to noon, each Friday, Nov. 6-20. This class will show you how your camera works, and then help you optimize your camera for your specific needs.
- An Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry class will meet from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 30 through Dec. 15. Upon successful completion of this class, participants will receive a Department of Labor OSHA 30 hour construction safety and health course completion card.

Greenville Campus
- A Nurse Aide class will meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Nov. 2-18. This class offers preparation for basic care providers in long-term care facilities.
- A Basic Life Support (CPR) class, approved by the American Heart Association, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6. This class offers instruction in the management of the adult, child, and infant who needs CPR or foreign body airway management.
- A Forensic Nursing seminar is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, Nov. 13. This seminar is designed to heighten the awareness of the RN role in responding to the bio-psycho-social care of all patients including those that are victims or suspects of violent crimes.
- Surfing the Web will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., each Thursday, Nov. 5-19. An alternate class will meet from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., each Friday, Nov. 6-20. This class is an introduction to the Internet including e-mail, home page, and how to perform basic research to address company/business needs.
- Coaching for Success will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 13. This session introduces skills for guiding individuals and teams toward achieving successful results. Registration deadline is one week prior to the class date.
- Free small business counseling is available by appointment from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each Wednesday and Friday, Nov. 4-20. The counseling sessions are held at the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, 2713 Stonewall St. Call 903-455-1510 to schedule an appointment.
- Finding Money to Start a Business will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13. Participants will learn what it takes to raise capital to start or expand a business. Topics will include what lenders are looking for when making a business loan, getting a commercial loan from a bank, U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) guaranteed loans, other business loan sources, and how to prepare a loan package.
- Government Contracting 101 is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Nov. 20. Participants will learn the basics of government contracting at the federal, state, and local level. Information will include regulations, uniform contract format, contract types, electronic commerce and more.
- How to Start Your Own Business will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20. Anyone who has ever dreamed of owning a business will benefit from this free seminar. Legal requirements, feasibility studies, forms of business ownership and their advantages and disadvantages, the business plan, finding the money, what lenders want to know, SBA loans, and other loan sources will be explained in this informative seminar.

Sulphur Springs Campus
- Free counseling to start or expand a small business is offered every Thursday, Nov. 5-19 at the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce, 300 Connally Street. To make an appointment, contact the Chamber at 903-885-6515.
- How to Start Your Own Business will meet from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13. Anyone who has ever dreamed of owning a business will benefit from this free seminar. Legal requirements, feasibility studies, forms of business ownership and their advantages and disadvantages, the business plan, finding the money, what lenders want to know, SBA loans, and other loan sources will be explained in this informative seminar.
- Patent, Trademark and Copyright Laws will show how to register a copyright, select and register a trademark, and how to evaluate products for patent protection. The seminar meets from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Nov. 20.
- The childcare workshop is designed for all child care employees and meets the continuing education requirements for Texas as set forth by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Annual training provides caregivers an opportunity to learn the newest techniques for addressing children’s behaviors, to discover the latest findings on what children need as they develop, and to refresh and re-energize. The workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.
