Published or Revised May 05, 2006

Brian Smith has been named the Lady Dragon softball coach at Paris Junior College, according to Dr. Jim Moffitt, PJC Athletic Director. Smith comes to PJC from Northwest Shaols Community College in Muscle Shoals, Ala., where he was head volleyball coach and math instructor. He also served as assistant softball coach for four seasons and an assistant coach for two 18-and-under teams. Smith will be replacing Vernon Carter, who is retiring this season after eight years at the helm of the Lady Dragons team. "My career path includes softball, and it's what I love to do," Smith said. "Volleyball was a way for me to stay active, but I've been looking forward to leading a good program and getting the chance to be a part of a successful softball team." Eight players are expected to return in 2006-2007 to the Lady Dragons team, along with four signees. Smith and his wife Misty, 8-year-old daughter Brooklyn and 11-month-old son Cayden will make their move to Texas this summer after the school year ends. PJC Lady Dragons set a school record with its 33 victories during the regular season, including its 20 regional wins. They are participating in the Region XIV post-season tournament in Alvin.
