Published or Revised May 05, 2006

Paris Junior College Dragons softball coach Vernon Carter has been named NJCAA Region XIV Softball Coach of the Year, and five members of his PJC team have been named to All-Conference squads. Carter was honored Thursday evening in Houston during a meeting of Region XIV softball coaches. His Dragons squad lost to Alvin Community College, 6-1, Thursday afternoon in the first round of the Region XIV Softball Tournament in Alvin. Dragons Rachel Barrow and Brandi Dalme were named to the First Team All-Conference squad. Three Dragons players - Larissa Martin, Chaewayla Jackson and Brittany Strickland - were named to the Second Team All-Conference squad. Carter, who has been at PJC eight years, will retire when his team finishes post-season play. He led the Dragons to a 33-26 record this season, 20-10 in conference play. Both winning numbers are school records and earned the Dragons their second-ever trip to the regional tournament.
