Paris Junior College jewelry instructor Shannon Calloway was working in her office near the end of the fall semester when Dr. Richard Swint appeared before her saying he wished to honor longtime friend Randy Rader while benefitting PJC’s Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology. Now the department has received $5,000 for the best use of the department to honor Rader, owner of Gene the Jeweler, his family and his parents Gene and the late Dorothy Rader. “This gift will help the next generation of jewelers, definitely,” said jewelry instructor Waylon “Butch” Munday. “We’ll get together as a group when we return in January and talk about what we think is the best thing to do with the money,” said jewelry instructor Serena Omori.
