Dragon Madness showcases basketball on Halloween

Published or Revised January 13, 2017

Monday evening is Halloween, and also Dragon Madness at Paris Junior College. The annual tradition to introduce the PJC basketball teams will start at 7 p.m. in the Hunt Center. “We are excited about this upcoming season,” said PJC Women’s Basketball Coach Gonzalo Garza. “Dragon Madness is exciting because it symbolizes the beginning of a brand new basketball season. Women’s basketball fans will get to come out and meet our returners and our new players and watch them perform in some three-point shooting action and other activities. It also gives our fans the chance to enjoy the traditional PJC Dragon Madness festivities. There will be lots of basketball, music, and candy. Fun for all ages!” “Dragon Madness is a fun time for everyone and it gives our students and community a chance to interact with our team,” said PJC Men’s Basketball Coach Bobby Taylor. “It also provides our guys an opportunity to let their personalities shine through the fun activities we have planned.” The evening opens with an introduction of the coaches and players for both teams, followed by a three-point contest, and then a slam dunk contest follows, featuring celebrity judges. Performances by the PJC Cheer Squad will be featured as well. PJC students showing the spirit of Halloween will have a chance to win for Best Costume. “Dragon Madness kind of signals the start of the season for us,” said Taylor. “All of the hard work and sweat that the guys have poured out over the last two months culminates with a fun-filled evening with our fans and the community. I think we will be a fun and exciting team to watch this season and I hope we can be competitive in the always-tough Region 14 Conference.”
