Encore! to present The Legends of Music

Published or Revised April 17, 2007

The 17th annual Encore! show featuring Paris Junior College's award-winning show choir will be staged Friday and Saturday, April 21-22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ray E. Karrer Theatre on the PJC campus. There will also be a Sunday afternoon matinee performance on April 22 at 2:30 p.m. The price for this annual Encore! show continues to be affordable, with tickets costing only $3 for all ages. However, persons with a PJC ID may get in free. Tickets will always be available the door for each performance, and there is no reserved seating. "The Legends of Music" is the theme chosen for this year's song and dance extravaganza, which will feature some of the favorite music legends of the Encore members. Some of the favorites to be portrayed through their most famous music hits will include The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, The Platters, Elvis, Patsy Cline, The Righteous Brothers, Whitney Houston, Elton John, and The Beatles, to name just a few. Encore will also present some favorite songs like, "September" from Earth, Wind, and Fire, "Soul Man" from the Blues Brothers, and "God Bless the U.S.A." from Lee Greenwood. Some exciting choreographic moves for the show have been designed by Meshaya Wallace, Samantha House, Robyn Huizinga and Donovan Irby. In addition, this Encore! group sports some very talented voices that will be featured in variety show like presentations much like the ones seen in Branson, Mo. According to director Patricia Fowzer, this show will most likely present many different opportunities for the audience members to want to sing along. Also, associated with this exciting weekend of entertainment, the members of Encore! are again offering their Song and Dance Workshop for children and teens on Saturday afternoon from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. in the PJC music building. Students from grades K–8 are invited to participate in an afternoon of learning both the dance steps and tips for a great vocal performance of one of the musical selections from Encore's Legends show. Students who participate will receive a commemorative certificate, a color picture taken with the Encore! members, and will be afforded an opportunity to actually perform on one evening of the Encore! show. Cost for the workshop is $25. Participants can sign up by e-mailing director Pat Fowzer at pfowzer@parisjc.edu, or they can call 903-782-0343. Members of the Encore troupe include Brandi Amos, Marcus Bailey, Haley Bulls, Amy Chennault, Kristen Eudy, Donovan Irby, Jill Hodgkiss, Samantha House, Jamaal Jones, Brittany Joseph, Dori Logsdon, Josh Maxwell, Erin McDowell, Jordan Perry, Tyler Little, Sammy Rollerson , Meshaya Wallace and Tommy Wallace.
