February’s Continuing Ed schedule released

Paris Junior College’s Continuing Education Department has scheduled a variety of courses for February.
Paris Campus
Unless otherwise noted, classes are held in the Bobby R. Walters Workforce Training Center on the north side of the PJC campus.
- The Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is awarded to individuals that have completed 120 hours of classroom training as set forth by the Council for Professional Recognition. The course will be presented from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., each Monday and Wednesday, Feb. 6 through May 23. After successful completion of this course, the individual must complete a direct assessment package and request a verification site visit. The CDA credential will be awarded upon completion of a successful site evaluation and exam. Continuing Education Scholarships are available.
- A Microsoft Word Basic class is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., each Monday, Feb. 6-27. Topics will cover creating, saving and opening documents; editing documents; the cut/copy/paste and find/replace function; formatting text and paragraphs; formatting documents; and creating and formatting tables.
- A Microsoft Access Basic class will meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Thursday, Feb. 9 through March 1. The course will cover understanding of a relational database; database design, how to retrieve information through queries; developing forms, designing reports; and modifying the structure of a database.
- The Web Page Design workshop meets from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., each Friday, Feb. 17 through March 2. No previous web page experience is required. Participants will not only learn basic web page design principles but also how to get a free place to park your web page. Other topics will cover how to plan, structure and build a web page and web site in this hands-on workshop.
- Welcome to the World of Computers is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon, each Friday, Feb. 17 through March 9. Students will learn basic computer tasks using windows; proper mouse and keyboard techniques; how to navigate the internet; social networking; email use and more.
- Connecting with Facebook will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., each Wednesday, Feb. 22-29. Students will learn how to sign up for a Facebook account, how to edit their profile, upload videos and pictures, find friends, play games, chat and more.
- Professional Truck Driver I and II are offered at Paris Junior College based on demand. Please call 903-782-0447 to schedule.
- The Driver’s Education class is approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety and is open to students at least 15 years of age. A birth certificate, verification of enrollment (VOE) and social security card must be provided once the class begins. The class meets from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Feb. 13 through March 8.
- The Defensive Driving class is offered by Paris Junior College #067 in accordance with the standards established by the National Traffic Safety Institute of Texas, Inc., under license #C0197, and consists of six hours of classroom instruction. The class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 20-21. This course may be applied toward insurance discounts or, in some cases, for traffic ticket dismissal.
- Basic Life Support (CPR) Re-certification for Health Professionals will be offered from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6. This is an update and review for current CPT certified cardholders. Written examination and successful demonstration of skill is required. The American Heart Association certifies this class.
- The Physical Therapy Technician course will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., each Monday and Wednesday, Feb. 8 through April 11. This course is for students considering pursuing formal education towards Physical Therapy Assistant Certification. A high school diploma or GED is required.
- The ACLS Provider Course is designed in accordance with the American Heart Association standards to teach the skills necessary to provide advanced cardiac life support. The class will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 7-8. Basic knowledge of ECG interpretation is helpful. Current BLS HealthCare Provider Certification is mandatory. Enclose a copy of both sides of current BLS card with registration.
- Phlebotomy: Basic and Clinical is scheduled to meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., each Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 7 through May 1. No uniform is required. A criminal background check and drug screen must be completed before the class begins. GED or high school diploma is required as well as CPR certification. Immunization records to include current Hepatitis B, Tetanus & TB must be provided prior to starting the class. The clinical course requires a flexible schedule which will be provided once the class begins, not before. Continuing Education scholarships are available.
- The ACLS Provider Renewal Course is for current ACLS cardholders. Written examination and successful demonstration of skills is required. The course will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
- The Heartsaver First Aid CPR and AED (automatic external defibrillator) course provides first responders with training in basic first aid and CPR/AED procedures including the first aid skills recommended by OSHA. The class will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17.
- The Medication Aide Update fulfills the annual renewal requirements for certified medication aides. Med Aides should take this class one month before expiration of their certification card. The session will meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24.
- The Basic Life Support (CPR) class approved by the American Heart Association will meet from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25. An evening class will be offered from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 8-9. This course covers instruction in lifesaving skills of respiratory (choking and near drowning) and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children, and infants.
- The Nurse Aide class offers preparation for entry level assistants to provide basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. The class will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Feb. 27 through March 21. A photo ID, Social Security card and criminal background release is required at registration.
- The Dental Assistant course will meet from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., each Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 28 through May 17. Four Saturday sessions will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This course familiarizes students with all area of pre-clinical dental assisting and provides training required to function as an assistant in the dental practice.
- Spanish for Fun will be held from 5:30-7 p.m., each Wednesday, Feb. 8-29. This course offers practical and functional use of Spanish in a short period of time.
- The Kids Hurt Too seminar will meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7. This seminar is designed to help parents understand the needs of their children throughout the process of divorce.
- A Digital Photography class will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., each Tuesday, Feb. 7-21. Bring your own camera and instruction manual if you have one.
- Beginning Genealogy: Where Are Your Roots? meets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18. Participants will learn the basics of census records search, obituary research, how to create a family tree and more. A flash drive will be helpful to save valuable research during the instruction.
- The Electrical Licensing Preparation course is for electricians preparing to take the Texas State Electrical exam. All material is included except the NEC codebook. The course is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18 and 25.
- The Basic Electrical Theory course covers the fundamentals of electricity. The class will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., each Monday and Wednesday, Feb. 20 through April 18.

Greenville Campus
The classes are held at the PJC — Greenville Center campus, 6500 Monty Stratton Parkway.
- The Basic Life Support (CPR) class is approved by the American Heart Association. The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10. This class covers instruction in lifesaving skills of respiratory (choking and near drowning) and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children, and infants. Others topics cover information about heart disease, pediatric and adult risk factors, prudent heart living, heart and lung function, and signals and action for survival. The course uses the two rescuer approach to the adult and child victim.
- The Nurse Aide class offers preparation for entry level assistants to achieve a level of knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to provide basic care to residents of long-term care facilities. The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Feb. 27 through March 21.

Sulphur Springs Campus
The classes meet at the PJC — Sulphur Springs Center, 1202 W. Houston.
- The Medication Administration course provides instruction in preparation and administration of designated medication by non-licensed nursing personnel employed in licensed health care agencies including the responsibilities associated with such administration. The class meets from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., each Monday and Wednesday, Feb. 20 through June 27. Participants must have successfully completed a 75-hour nurse aide course; be 18 years of age or older; have a high school diploma or GED, and have 90 days work experience in a long term care facility.
- The comprehensive Pharmacy Technician class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., each Monday, Feb. 20 through June 11. This course prepares students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. This course includes a graded final CCI exam.
