2014 Tyler Junior College Fall Invitational

Oct. 19-21, 2014 Tyler, Texas The PJC Dragons golf team had a great win this week at Tyler Junior College’s Fall Invitational at Eagles Bluff Golf Club in Bullard. The Dragons won by 13 shots over host TJC with rounds of 311 and 289. Sophomore Tyler Dunbar, of Lufkin, led the Dragons with rounds of 77 and a two under 69 in the final round. Dunbar finished in third place as an individual and was named to the All Tournament team. Freshman Cameron Holzshu of Montgomery was also named to the All Tournament team in sixth place with scores of 77 and 73. Other PJC scores included freshmen Jordan Brown of Mansfield, 81-74, and Grayson Benavides of Ft. Worth, 76-78. Sophomores Collin Thompson of Longview had 73-73 and Oliver Stephens of Sarnia in Ontario, Canada had 84-74. “I was excited to see us play well as a whole in the second round,” said PJC golf coach David Johnson. “Golf is a very individualistic sport and it’s hard getting everyone to play well at the same time. We all clicked together in the second round. I believe we finally realized that our biggest opponents on the course are ourselves. “If we focus on staying positive and upbeat when we hit a bad shot, which is going to happen, just move on to the next challenge. Then at the end of the day, both your scores and attitude will improve greatly. I think we understand that we aren’t competing with other people at a tournament; we are competing with ourselves and the golf course. To shoot 289 as a team at the Bluffs is a really good score. That is by far the best team score we’ve had there in nine years. I hope we take what we learned about ourselves this week and use it again in Waco next week.”

Oliver Stephens also played very well.” The Dragons next see action September 29-30 at Lake Texoma at Chickasaw Point Golf Club, hosted by Southeast Oklahoma State University.
