During halftime of the Paris Junior College men’s basketball game against Trinity Valley Community College on Feb. 28, Lavelt Page and Denisha Crow were selected as the 2015 Mr. & Miss PJC. To be nominated, candidates must be a full-time student, have at least 45 hours completed at PJC, and be on track to graduate. They are nominated by PJC faculty and staff and selected by a vote of the student body. Page is a 2007 graduate of Justin F. Kimball High School and the son of Sonia Page of Dallas, Texas. He serves as the student assistant for the PJC men’s basketball team, and recently attended Community College Day in Austin. A member of Phi Theta Kappa, the two-year college honor society, he has also been nominated to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. He has volunteered with the First Baptist Church and St. Paul Baptist Church Halloween activities and PJC’s fall DragonFest. After PJC he plans to continue his education at a four-year university pursuing his degree in sports management. Crow is a 2013 graduate of Lone Oak High School and the daughter of J.L. Crow and Connie Crow. She serves as Vice President of the African American Student Union and an active volunteer in community organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Downtown Food Pantry, and the Salvation Army bell-ringing program. She attended the Southwest Black Leadership Conference in College Station in both 2014 and 2015. She has been nominated to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and is a life skills coach for MHMR and a licensed cosmetologist. After PJC she plans to attend Texas A&M University - Commerce to study business and marketing.
