PJC debuts band at concert

The Paris Junior College Concert Band and Choir will perform a free concert sponsored by the PJC Music Department at 7:30 p.m. next Tuesday, Nov. 15. The concert will be held in the Ray E. Karrer Theater, located in the Administration Building on the PJC campus. “Our students have been working very hard all semester to bring you a vocal and instrumental program comprised of over 600 years worth of music,” said Dr. Michael Holderer, PJC Director of Music. “If you like classical, jazz, rock, or any music produced within the last half millennium, you will enjoy this concert.” The concert will feature music styles from Renaissance to Pop and from countries such as England, Japan, Italy, and Germany. The newly-formed band will first perform “Bourrée in E-minor” and “Minuet in G-minor” by J.S. Bach; “Geheime Liebe” by Leopold Mozart, “An die Bächer” and “Le Baisser” by F.X. Mozart; the waltz from “Face of Another” by Toru Takemitsu; and “Si tu vois ma Mère,” by Sidney Bechet. Members of the band include Michalla Barr, Ryan Callaway, Jeff Lawton, Amanda Ross, Eric Shelton, and Jacob Weissenmayer. The choir will perform “Innsbruck ich muss dich lassen” by Heinrich Isaac, “Luci Care, Luci Belle” by W.A. Mozart; “Santa Lucia” by Teodoro Cottrau; “Trinklied” by Beethoven; “Simple Gifts” and “Shall We Gather at the River?” traditional hymns; “Akatombo Kosaku” by Yamada; “With a Little Help From My Friends” by The Beatles; and “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers. Choir members include Ethan Brown, Saveuyon Brown, Antavius Draughn, Crystal Finney, Eden Godwin, Alex Greer, Adrian Hobbs, Raven Maxwell, Amber Nelms, Sarah Stogner-Dickinson, and Kala Vickers.
