PJC celebrates GenTX College Decision Day this week

Published or Revised April 27, 2015

Friday, May 1, marks a statewide, daylong celebration to inspire students to pursue and achieve a higher education. To help celebrate the 2015 GenTX College Decision Day, the Paris Junior College Admissions Office will provide students planning on attending PJC a free t-shirt to wear on Friday. Future PJC students should stop by the Admissions Office and pick up a t-shirt, while supplies last. Stopping by the PJC Admissions Office also provides an opportunity for prospective students to ask questions about programs and take a tour of the campus. The 2015 theme was generated by The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), creators of the Generation Texas movement. The THECB hopes that this Friday, students across Texas will wear a t-shirt showing their choice for higher education. Generation TX is a statewide initiative focused on creating a college-going culture across the state. Through GenTX Day, GenTX Week and other seasonal promotions, Generation TX is clarifying the path to college for Texas students and families by providing information on college and career readiness, college application and financial aid in a fresh and engaging manner. This effort corresponds with the National Decision Day that encourages non-committed seniors and students from lower grades to make postsecondary plans while helping to reduce “summer melt,” the gap between spring college applications and actual fall enrollments. “Decision Day is a great way for schools and communities to celebrate the higher education opportunities and choices of their senior class,” said Texas Higher Education Commissioner Raymund Paredes. “These events are held to praise students’ success and their commitment to postsecondary education or training, while supporting the development of a college-going culture among younger students within the high school.” For more information, visit www.GenTX.org.
