The Paris Junior College of Music Department has two free shows on tap next week. A Pops Music Concert is slated for Tuesday, April 29 and a student music recital will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1. The Tuesday event is a choral concert of Music from the World of Disney. Song selections range from early Disney hits from Disney movie scores such as “Song of the South,” “Mary Poppins,” “Cinderella,” and “Snow White.” More recent selections are from “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” and “The Little Mermaid” will conclude this program by the PJC Chorale. The PJC Cabaret Singers will also be featured at the concert, presenting a medley of songs by Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim. Music selections from such shows as “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Company,” and “A Little Night Music” will be performed by PJC Musical Theatre Students. The Tuesday concert is at 7:30 p.m. in the Ray Karrer Theater in the Administration Building. The second event is the PJC Music Student Recital, which will be held in the Shaw Music Building’s Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1. Students will perform chosen selections to highlight their semester in the Shaw Music Building's Recital Hall. “Our music students have had a great few weeks working up this Disney program,” said PJC music instructor and director of choirs Philip Briggs. “One of my students commented on the first day of the Disney rehearsals, ‘It’s like we are all five years old again!’ They are really excited. The student recital later in the week will showcase our vocal students’ hard work this semester.” Both music programs are free to the public and all are invited to attend.
