PJC Board of Regents address redistricting option

Published or Revised February 08, 2017

At a special called meeting held on Monday, Feb. 6, the Paris Junior College Board of Regents unanimously approved a motion that would create the option for aligning four regent positions with the existing Lamar County precincts, and creating three at-large positions. The motion directed the College Administration to work with legislative representatives and senators to introduce a local bill that provides the Board this option. Actual wording of the motion: “To ensure all options are available to the Board for determining representation in territory approved for annexation, since county commissioner districts have already been drawn in accordance with federal voting rights laws, I move to authorize the administration to work with our senator and representatives to submit a local bill to the Legislature allowing the board, if it so chooses in the future, to align with the commissioners’ precincts by electing one regent from each precinct and three regents at-large.”
