PJC Board of Regents will wait for election to fill vacancy

At their meeting Monday night, the Paris Junior College Board of Regents voted to leave the District 2 position vacant, deferring it to a May 2016 election. "Elections have brought positive action and publicity to Paris Junior College," said Regent Jim Bell. "I think the elections are important." Regents Curtis Fendley and Dr. Clifton Wilkerson reported on their attendance at the Association of Community College Trustees Annual Congress, saying they attended multiple informative sessions and learned a great deal that will assist their governance of the college. In other business, the Regents:
  • Received a report from PJC comptroller Keitha Carlton that PJC's overall cash position remains strong.
  • Approved a change in the EGA (Local) policy reflecting that grades are no longer mailed. Students are now able to access their grades online through Campus Connect as soon as they are posted.
  • Received the schedule for Homecoming 2015 events, which begin with the Student Government Association Homecoming Parade at 4:00 p.m. on Nov. 12 and a pep rally at 5:15 p.m., both beginning at the Hunt Center. On Friday, Nov. 13 the President’s Reception will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the McLemore Student Center Ballroom. Saturday, Nov. 14 at 10:00 a.m. the annual Alumni & Friends Association board meeting will take place in the McLemore Student Center Cafeteria. At 11:00 a.m. the doors open at the Love Civic Center for the Distinguished Alumni Luncheon that begins at 11:30 a.m. The Athletic Hall of Fame induction will take place in the McLemore Student Center Ballroom at 2:30 p.m. The evening will conclude with the women’s and men’s basketball games starting at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at halftime of the men’s game.
  • Updated on the Annual Campaign Fund; to date $196,000 has been raised towards the goal of $200,000.
  • Accepted the resignation of Upward Bound Advisor Jacqueline Polk, effective Oct. 16.
