2015 All Stars

Named as All Stars are softball player Sierra Valdez and baseball players Nathan Hickey (center) and Garrett Moon (right).

The Paris Junior College softball team played Murray State college and travelled to Magnolia Arkansas for a two-game series recently.

“Our Lady Dragon softball team has put in an extensive amount of work on the field this fall,” said PJC Softball Coach Angel Castro. “We have high expectations for this new team and are excited to see them progress.”

In the following weeks the team will travel to play Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Texas A & M University - Commerce and Stephen F. Austin University. The players and coaches are excited to get the opportunity to allow the team showcase their skills against these very competitive NCAA Division II teams.

Sierra Valdez was selected Second Team All Conference and invited to play in the Texas Junior College Softball Coaches Association All-Star Game in Belton, Texas, but was unable to attend the actual game due to scheduling conflicts.

The Dragons baseball team has been working hard this fall to prepare for the 2016 season.  The team has traveled to Eastfield College, Weatherford Tournament (playing Grayson and Weatherford Colleges) and Northeast Texas Community College for scrimmages thus far.  The team will be counting on major support from the freshman class as the 2016 team only has three position players and four pitchers returning.

Early expectations have been very high as the new recruits include three members of 2015 high school baseball state champions: Rixey Boyd and Cutter McDonald of Argyle High School and Chad Hardy of Prosper High School.  Also, J.T. vanGelder from Frisco Liberty High School, Boyd and Hardy all made All State individual honors.

The Texas-New Mexico Junior College Baseball Coaches Association recognized some of the best returning players in the league. PJC representatives were RHP Nathan Hickey of Granbury High School and catcher Garrett Moon of Rockwall High School. Both players received First Team All-Conference honors as freshman for the Dragons and played in a showcase game at Weatherford College on Saturday, September 26th.

“This event has traditionally been one of the most recruited showcase events in the country,” said PJC Baseball Coach Deron Clark, “and both players will be under the microscope in front of hundreds of college and professional scouts.”

The Dragons finish their home fall schedule against Eastfield College on Sept. 29, then it will be off to Angelina College on Friday and Sunday for the Region 14 East Fall Conference Tournament. The conference tournament has been another highly recruited event in Texas that will promote many of PJC’s players at the next level.
