Board of Regents cancels May 13 election

Published or Revised March 28, 2006

The election called last month by the Paris Junior College Board of Regents to fill four expiring board member terms has been cancelled. At its Monday night meeting, Regents approved an order canceling the May 13 election since only one candidate filed for each of the four places before the March 13 deadline. Current office holders filed for re-election to all the places, including Paul Gene Roden in the Place 2 at-large position, Ann Wyche in Place 6, Rachel Braswell in Place 9, and Gary Preston in Place 5. Preston was recently appointed to fill Mrs. Ginna Walker's unexpired term. Since there is no opposition, the candidates will be declared elected and will be sworn into office at the May Regents meeting. In other business, PJC regents approved a recommendation that will add to the PJC Policies & Procedures Manual a directive stating that the district will obtain criminal history information and conduct a background check on persons being employed. This procedure will be implemented through the Human Resources Office of the college. Regents also approved an administration recommendation that the college use the "construction manager at-risk" method of project delivery for its upcoming construction projects. The board also: » Appointed Rachel Braswell to represent the Board of Regents on the PJC Alumni and Friends Board of Directors. » Welcomed the men and women's basketball teams to the meeting and recognized them for their outstanding season. » Added Atlantic Financial to the list of approved Optional Retirement Plan providers. » Re-hired faculty members for the upcoming year. » Accepted the resignation of network/CISCO Programs instructor Keith Flowers.
