Alumni and Friends to sponsor SpringFest April 21

Paris Junior College Alumni and Friends Association is launching an exciting new event this spring to raise funds for student scholarships. SpringFest, a celebration of fun, food, music, a great art show and more will be held on Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the PJC campus. The public is invited to spend the day enjoying events and shows that will entertain all ages. There will be music and food available on the "campus green" among the trees all day. People can shop the artist's booths, and various events are scheduled to kick off throughout the day. Two early events will be the April in Paris Art Show and the Fun Run and Walk. The Art Show, to be held in the McLemore Student Center on campus, will accept check-ins from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, April 20 in the McLemore Student Center. There will be a patron preview of the show at 6 p.m. Friday. Artist's booths will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday in the Student Center and old gymnasium, and the art show will open at 10 a.m. The 5K run and 2-mile walk will leave the starting line at the PJC Hunt Center at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 21. But registration is now being accepted. Entries can be picked up at the Student Center, or call 903-782-0433. Live band performances by Crew One, Lana Phillips, Artless and Sabine Bottom Blues Band, all free of charge, will be ongoing around campus throughout the day Saturday, and the best in high school art from throughout the area will be on display in the Student Center. Saturday events will also provide entertainment for children. They can enjoy the inflatable fun houses, kid's train ride, face painting, balloons, and visit with Pyro the Dragon and Billy the Book. Young and old alike can have their photographs made in period costume in the Meyer Music Building. Fans and players can enjoy the Dragon six-on-six volleyball tournament in the Hunt Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The volleyball tournament will be in double-elimination fashion, and teams will play one game to 30 with rally scoring. Standard coed volleyball rules will apply. Two courts will be used to speed play, and each team is allowed an alternate. Play is limited to 16 teams. Registration will continued until the teams are filled or until Friday, April 20. The Red River Valley Honkers Antique Car Show will be open to the public on campus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nature tours, guided by the Red River Chapter of the Master Naturalists, will be conducted on the Trail de Paris south of the campus from 1-5 p.m. Baseball fans can catch the PJC Dragon baseball team playing Navarro College at noon on April 21 at Hub Hollis Field.
