Published or Revised May 03, 2007

Vonda Wallace, an acute care nurse at Paris Regional Medical Center, has been named Lamar County Nurse of the Year. She received the award at a special Nurse's Week celebration held recently at Paris Junior College. Wallace has been a nurse for 22 years and has worked in acute care in Paris for 20 years. Marcia Putnam, director of the Health Occupations at Paris Junior College, said the most common phrases used to describe the 2007 Nurse of the Year are intelligent, knowledgeable, caring, dedicated and positive. "She teaches patients and co-workers, is always available to assist, anticipates the needs of others and is all about helping," Putnam said. "She frequently serves as a charge nurse where she is a role model and a resource for her co-workers." Wallace received the award from PJC Dean of Applied Technologies David McAnally during a Nurse's Week reception and awards luncheon Walters Applied Technology Building.
