TRIO Day, first generation students celebrated at PJC

TRIO Day is a day of celebration, reflection and action around increased access to higher education for disadvantaged students. Federal TRIO Programs help income-eligible and first-generation students enter college and earn a degree. A TRIO Day luncheon with a keynote speaker will be held on Wednesday, March 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the PJC Student Center Ballroom. The first 50 attendees will receive a free lunch.

Season of Elements continues with “The Hobbit” at PJC on Feb. 28

As part of the 2018-2019 theme of a “Season of Elements,” the Paris Junior College Department of Drama opens “The Hobbit” on Thursday, Feb. 28, representing the element of Earth. The show runs through March 3.

Mr. and Miss PJC 2019 announced

Paris Junior College sophomores Cannon Davis and Katie Cullum were named Mr. & Miss PJC 2019 on Wednesday, Feb. 20 during halftime of the men’s basketball game in the Hunt Center.

PJC guest artist exhibit opens with Tuesday reception

The public is invited to a free opening reception for guest artist Alexia Mentzel on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019 at Paris Junior College’s Foyer Gallery from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

PJC regents receive clean audit report at start of 2019

Paris Junior College and the PJC Memorial Foundation received a clean audit report at the PJC Board of Regents meeting on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019.

PJC releases certified fall 2018 graduates list

Paris Junior College is pleased to release the certified roll of graduates from the fall graduation ceremony held Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, in the Hunt Center. This was the sixth year for the fall ceremony, after growing numbers of graduates required two graduations. An opening invocation was delivered by Student Government Association President Cyan Burkhart, and PJC music instructor Dr. Michael Holderer performed “Ending of the Beginning.”

Webb named 2018 PJC Annual Fund Chair

Kenneth Webb, Director of Student Services at Paris Junior College has been named as the Chairman of the 2018 PJC Annual Fund.

PJC soccer players named to NJCAA All Region Team

Raymond Kennedy and Emiliano Leal, both freshmen on the Paris Junior College men’s soccer team, were recently named to the 2018-2018 Division I National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region XIV team.

PJC Recital and Concert on Monday and Tuesday

Two free evenings of music are offered next week by Paris Junior College. A student recital will be held Monday at 7 p.m., Dec. 3, 2018, and a Christmas Concert and Sing-Along is featured for Tuesday at 7 p.m., Dec. 4, 2018.

Regents hold officer elections, recognize faculty and staff

The Paris Junior College Board of Regents swore in recently elected regents and elected officers for the next two years at their meeting Monday evening, Nov. 26, 2018.

PJC receives major recognition in math instruction

Paris Junior College was chosen to receive the Overall Exemplar Award at the 2018 Math Pathways Awards during the Texas Pathways Institute held in Dallas on Nov. 14. The award was jointly announced by the Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC), the Texas Success Center (TSC), and the Dana Center Mathematics Pathways (DCMP). Begun in 2014, the initiative has brought marked improvement to PJC student success.

PJC holding Veterans Day Ceremony and Bells of Peace event

Each year Paris Junior College holds a Veteran’s Day ceremony at the DeShong Chapel to mark the day and honor PJC students lost to war. To help mark the United States World War I Centennial, PJC will also join the national Bells of Peace ceremony.

Schedule, nominees announced for 94th PJC Homecoming

“PJC through the Decades” is the theme for the 94th annual Homecoming festivities at Paris Junior College set for November 8-10, 2018.

“Peter and the Starcatcher” opens Thursday at PJC

A story about the origins of Peter Pan opens Thursday on the Duane Allen Stage in the Ray E. Karrer Theater, with performances of “Peter and the Starcatcher” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. (Nov. 8-11, 2018).

Guest artist exhibit at PJC through December

The Paris Junior College Foyer Gallery is hosting an opening reception for the exhibit, “A Casual Relationship with the Truth,” from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening, Nov. 2. The exhibit will run until Dec. 7, 2018.

PJC names four to 2018 Academic Hall of Honor

One of the highlights of Paris Junior College’s Homecoming, November 9-10, will be the induction of the Academic Hall of Honor Class of 2018. Named this year are James A. “Jim” Wade, Sheila Coursey, James R. Rodgers and Judy R. Hodgkiss. They will be honored as part of the Distinguished Alumni Awards Luncheon at the Love Civic Center on Nov. 10, 2018, at 11:30 a.m.

Fall Choir Concert at PJC October 23

The Fall Choir Concert at Paris Junior College will feature the music of Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Rachmaninov, and more. The concert will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the J. Emory Shaw Recital Hall in the Music Building on Tuesday, Oct. 23.

Roan Oak Masonic Lodge awards four PJC nursing scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of the Roan Oak Masonic Lodge, four members of the 2018-19 associate degree nursing class at Paris Junior College received $500 toward their tuition, fees and related expenses.

PJC instructor participates in TribFest

Ruth Ann Alsobrook, government instructor at Paris Junior College, recently participated in the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin. Known as TribFest, the event featured 300 speakers and thousands of attendees over three days to examine politics and policy facing Texas and the United States. Alsobrook was invited to be on two panels on innovative ways to teach Texas Government.
