TRIO Day, first generation students celebrated at PJC
TRIO Day is a day of celebration, reflection and action around increased access to higher education for disadvantaged students. Federal TRIO Programs help income-eligible and first-generation students enter college and earn a degree. A TRIO Day luncheon with a keynote speaker will be held on Wednesday, March 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the PJC Student Center Ballroom. The first 50 attendees will receive a free lunch.

As part of the 2018-2019 theme of a “Season of Elements,” the Paris Junior College Department of Drama opens “The Hobbit” on Thursday, Feb. 28, representing the element of Earth. The show runs through March 3.

Paris Junior College is pleased to release the certified roll of graduates from the fall graduation ceremony held Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, in the Hunt Center. This was the sixth year for the fall ceremony, after growing numbers of graduates required two graduations. An opening invocation was delivered by Student Government Association President Cyan Burkhart, and PJC music instructor Dr. Michael Holderer performed “Ending of the Beginning.”

Paris Junior College was chosen to receive the Overall Exemplar Award at the 2018 Math Pathways Awards during the Texas Pathways Institute held in Dallas on Nov. 14. The award was jointly announced by the Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC), the Texas Success Center (TSC), and the Dana Center Mathematics Pathways (DCMP). Begun in 2014, the initiative has brought marked improvement to PJC student success.

They will be honored as part of the Distinguished Alumni Awards Luncheon at the Love Civic Center on Nov. 10, 2018, at 11:30 a.m.

Ruth Ann Alsobrook, government instructor at Paris Junior College, recently participated in the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin. Known as TribFest, the event featured 300 speakers and thousands of attendees over three days to examine politics and policy facing Texas and the United States. Alsobrook was invited to be on two panels on innovative ways to teach Texas Government.
