July Continuing Education courses announced

Learn more about computers, or how to start or improve your business with PJC Continuing Education courses.

Paris Junior College’s Continuing Education Department will offer a variety of classes during July.

Paris Campus

  • A Recruit and Hire Good Employees seminar will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on July 10. This session will highlight services offered by Workforce Solutions of Northeast Texas which include assistance to employers with recruitment, retention, training and/or retraining and outplacement. In this seminar you will learn about the Work in Texas program, the Work Certified Program, recruiting and hiring practices, and the advantages of using temporary staffing agency partners to find the right employees for your business.
  • How to Start Your Own Business will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on July 11. This free seminar will help guide participants by looking at various forms of business ownership and the advantages and disadvantages, creating a business plan, a marketing plan, getting legal advice, taxes, advertising and much more.
  • What’s So Important About Customer Service will give a light-hearted look at customer service while pointing out many very serious areas that may go unnoticed in everyday business operations. The session will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on July 17.
  • A free video presentation, “Overcoming Negativity in the Workplace,” will be presented from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 24. Participants will learn why pessimism is so prevalent in today’s constantly changing workplace, and what to do about negativity when it creeps into a department, organization or team. Proven methods will be offered to restore calm and confidence when people lose faith in upper management and each other; and a process for creating a positive, can-do mentality throughout an organization.
  • A Basic Life Support (CPR) class, approved by the American Heart Association, will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 1-2.
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) Recertification for Health Professionals will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on July 7. Written examination and successful demonstration of skills is required. The American Heart Association certified this course.
  • The Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED instruction will be given from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 12. It will be repeated in the same time frame on Saturday, July 19.
  • A Medication Aide Update fulfills the annual renewal requirements for certified medication aides according to specifications of the Texas Department of Health. The session runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 31.
  • An ACLS Provider Renewal Course is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22. It will also be offered in the same time frame on Wednesday, July 23.
  • An ACLS Provider Course will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 29-30. This course is designed in accordance with the American Heart Association standards.
  • The Kids Hurt Too seminar is designed to help parents understand the needs of their children throughout the process of divorce. The seminar meets from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 12.
  • A Real Estate MCE Update class meets from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, July 18-19. This TREC course, #15-06-127-5076, provider #0067, is approved by the Texas Real Estate Commission for 15 hours of MCE credit. The class offers 12 hours in legal topics and 3 hours in ethics.
  • An Adobe Photoshop, Part II class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., each Tuesday, July 22 through August 12. Participants will learn how to use and make actions; shortcuts and hotkeys; understand file size and storage and when to compress; and learn to create and use templates.
  • The Driver’s Education class is approved by the Texas Department of Public Safety and is open to students at least 15 years of age. A birth certificate, TEA Attendance Voucher, and social security card must be provided. The class is held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Monday through Thursday, July 7-31.
  • The Defensive Driving class is offered by Paris Junior College #067 in accordance with the standards established by the National Traffic Safety Institute of Texas, Inc., license #C0297, and consists of six hours of classroom instruction. The class meets from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on July 16 and 17.
  • The 200-hour Truck Driving class provides the skills and knowledge necessary for students to take the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) exams. New classes begin every two weeks. Call the 903-885-9800 for admission requirements, enrollment information, class dates and additional information.
  • The Microsoft Excel Intermediate 2007 class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., each Monday and Wednesday, July 7-16. Students will learn advanced techniques to analyze data, enhance charts and to automate worksheet tasks.
  • Surfing the Web is an introduction to the Internet including e-mail, home page, and how to perform basic research to address company/business needs. The class will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., each Monday, July 7-21.
  • The Microsoft Word Intermediate 2003 class is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., each Thursday, July 10-31. Topics will include illustrating documents with graphics; merging word documents; working with styles and templates; and developing multi-page documents.
  • A Microsoft Outlook 2007 class is a mail application and so much more. This class will cover managing e-mail and contacts; managing tasks, working with appointments and events and customizing Outlook. The class will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., each Monday, July 21 through August 4.

Greenville Campus

  • Understanding Personal Computers offers an introduction to computer use and terminology. The class will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., each Monday and Wednesday, July 7-14. This class is designed for the beginner and uses a hands-on approach that prepares participants to take other computer courses. Basic touch-typing skills would be helpful.
  • Understanding Windows teaches participants how to create, save, and find files; open and close multiple documents without fear of losing them; and explains some of the Windows accessories. The class will meet from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., each Monday and Wednesday, July 16-23.
  • Surfing the Web introduces the use of the Internet including e-mail, home page use, and how to perform basic research to address company or business needs. This class is scheduled from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., each Monday and Wednesday, July 23-30.
  • An Intermediate Microsoft Excel 2007 class will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., each Monday and Wednesday, July 7-16. Students will learn more advanced techniques to analyze data, enhance charts and to automate worksheet tasks.
  • A Basic Microsoft Word 2007 class will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon each Friday, July 11 through August 1. Students will learn to create a variety of professional looking documents from simple letters and memos to newsletters, blog posts, business cards, resumes, flyers and more.
  • A Sign Language for Kids, 8-12 years old, will meet from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, July 14-17. Kids will to sing songs, play games and have fun while learning to use their hands to communicate.
  • The Sign Language for Kids, for youtha 13-18 years old, will be offered from 1 p.m. t 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday, July 21-14. Students will learn sign language to talk to their friends through glass windows; communicate with hearing-impaired classmates, learn basic signs and become more informed about those who are hearing impaired.
  • How to Start Your Own Business will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on July 25. This free seminar will help guide participants by looking at various forms of business ownership and the advantages and disadvantages, creating a business plan, a marketing plan, getting legal advice, taxes, advertising and much more.
  • A 200-hour class provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to take the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) exam. New classes start every two weeks. Call 903-885-9800 for admission requirements, enrollment information, class dates and additional information.

Sulphur Springs Campus

  • The Beginning Keyboarding class helps students develop skills to learn touch-typing and achieve a minimum of 35 words per minute with no more than 2 errors. This class serves as a pre-requisite for upper level computer courses in high school. Students may choose from two time frames in taking this class. The class meets Monday through Thursday, July 7-24. Students may choose an 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. session or a 10 a.m. to noon session. Emphasis will be given to learning the use of alphabet, number and symbol keys by touch.
  • A Public Speaking class will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday, July 14-31. Students will learn effective techniques to improve presentation and public speaking skills, including content, voice, body language and the use of visual aids. This class will serve as a Sulphur Springs High School credit.
  • How to Start Your Own Business will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on July 18. This free seminar will help guide participants by looking at various forms of business ownership and the advantages and disadvantages, creating a business plan, a marketing plan, getting legal advice, taxes, advertising and much more.
