Two Paris Junior College instructors praised for their work in distance learning programs.
Two Paris Junior College instructors were honored recently at the Northeast Texas Consortium (NETnet) Summer Academy on “Distance Learning All Star Performers.” PJC history instructor Lisa Johnson was one of the first to teach online at PJC, and English instructor Toni McMillen teaches both online and through interactive television to dual-credit high school students. “Both of these outstanding instructors continue to be innovators and leaders in the field of distance learning,” said PJC Associate Dean of Distance Learning Kenneth Haley. “PJC students receive quality education through all teaching methods, thanks to their dedication.” “Johnson is extremely knowledgeable in her field, as well as the technological delivery of her subject,” said PJC Social Sciences Chair Allen Williams. “She has extensive experience with offering classes online and incorporates the latest technologies within her courses. So, besides being a super teacher, she is an expert in many areas of online instruction and a great mentor for our staff.” Of McMillen, PJC Division of Communications Instructional Supervisor Beth Shelton said, “Her lively personality and enthusiasm for composition and literature burst through the electronic media whether she is teaching an ITV class to multiple dual-credit high school sites or reaching out to students through the Internet in the privacy of their homes.” NETnet is the collaborative effort of PJC and 14 other higher education institutions to bring a wide range of instruction to 50 rural Northeast Texas counties containing 46 percent of the rural Texas population.
