New GED, ESL classes slated for this fall

New eight-week class sessions for GED (General Education Development) test and ESL (English as a Second Language) program begin the week of Oct. 26 and will start again in mid-January 2010. The classes will be offered at several locations for student convenience

Students may select the class day, time and location of the course they wish to attend and come to that class at the location and time stated in the schedule.

GED and ESL/Citizenship classes are offered at no cost. However, participation and commitment to attend each class day are essential to help students accomplish their learning goals.

Sixteen-year-olds must provide a copy of the court order stating they are required to attend the Adult Education (GED) classes offered through Paris Junior College. Seventeen-year-olds must provide an official withdrawal from high school for class admission. Students must bring these documents to the first class or they will not gain entry into the program.

The GED classes will be offered on the Paris Junior College campus from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday beginning on Oct. 27. These classes will be held in the Rheudasil Learning Center. Night classes will be available from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday beginning Oct. 27.

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes will meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday starting with an orientation Oct. 26-28 in the Rheudasil Learning Center. Daytime ESL/Citizenship Classes meet at Justiss Elementary School, with childcare provided, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and will begin with an orientation on Nov. 2 during class time.

GED classes in Cooper are full at the present time, but may have openings in January 2010.

GED classes will also be held at the Paris Junior College — Sulphur Springs Center. Day classes are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each Tuesday, Thursday and Friday beginning with an orientation from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23. Night classes will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm. each Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, beginning with an orientation from noon to 5 p.m. on Oct. 23.

ESL/Citizenship classes in Sulphur Springs will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each Wednesday and Thursday, beginning with an orientation on Oct. 28-29 during class. The class will meet at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1000 Texas St. Childcare is provided. Night classes meet at Our Saviour Lutheran Church from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday and begin with orientation on Oct. 26-28 during class. Childcare is provided.

ESL/Citizenship class are offered at Como-Pickton High School, room 302, in Como. The classes meet from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday. Orientation for these classes will be held Oct. 27-29 during class. Childcare is provided.
