Section: Golf ResultsParis Junior College Fall Invitational 2008The Dragons competed Monday at home at the Paris Golf and Country Club in the one day 36-hole Paris Fall Invitational. The PJC golfers finished in third place with rounds of 285 and 289 for a total team score of 574. Tyler Junior College edged out the Dragons for second place by one shot with a total of 573. Lon Morris won the team portion of the tournament with a score of 568. Individual Medalist honors went to returning PJC sophomore Jason Timmis of Great Britain. Timmis shot both rounds Monday at two-under-par 68 for a four-under-par total of 136, which edged out Jamie Garcia (137 total) of Lon Morris by one shot. Timmis was a freshman NJCAA and Ping All-American for the Dragons. Other Dragons competing Monday were Sophomore Borge Klungerbo, who finished tied for seventh with rounds of 73-71 and a total of 143. Klungerbo tied with Timmis for the tournament lead in birdies with nine. Freshman Kevin Giesbrecht played very well in the first round with a even par 70 and ran into some problems on the 18th hole of his final round, where he took an eight and finished with a 77 and a two-round total of 147. Red shirt freshman Preston Spoonemore shot steady rounds of 74 and 75 for a 149 total. Freshman Jesse Durham from Paris and North Lamar had rounds of 78 and 75 for a 153 total. Paris had three players playing as medalist: freshman Zane Caillier, 75-75=150, sophomore Tony Griffith, 76-75=151, and Jay Ryan 78-81=159. For our first tournament — and playing four guys who had not played in college tournaments before — I thought we played and competed well. We led by one shot after the first round, and I knew we would have to shoot about even par 280 or one or two over to hold off Lon Morris and Tyler. That was a lot to ask for four guys who hadn't been in that situation before as a team, but it was a great learning experience for us. Jason picked up right were he left off from last year by being the medalist at four under par. He came back from summer talking about improving his mental game, and I knew then he was going to do well this year, but not this early in the year. Borge is striking the ball well right now. His scoring has been good, but it will get better when his putting comes around a bit. Freshman Kevin Giesbrecht has been very impressive so far this fall with his scoring and course management. He has really struggled here at home with the breaks in the greens and the speed of the putts, but everyone that comes to Paris takes awhile to get those issues down. After coming off his red shirt freshman year Preston Spoonemore has been a pleasant surprise. He has to get back into competitive golf after sitting out last year, and he had a good start this week. The rest of the team is in a close race. One of them will have to distance himself from the others to get that last spot. Our next tournament is in Tyler at the Cascades ,which is a really tough test of golf. We will find out allot about ourselves when we take the show on the road. However, up to this point I am pleased with our progress. Final Standings
