Special classes for youngsters set in June and July

Kids can learn about crime scene investigations, increase their keyboarding skills, learn Spanish, try out yoga and much more.

Paris Junior College is offering special classes for youth in grades 6-8 during June and July.

  • CSI:Paris will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. June 9-10. Students will secure a crime scene, search for clues, process evidence, and put their knowledge to work to solve the crime.
  • KOOL Keyboarding will be offered from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, June 16-25. It will be repeated Monday through Thursday, July 7-10; and Mondays and Wednesdays, July 21-30.
  • Yoga for Youth will offer proper breathing and stretching techniques to create more energy and motivation. The class will meet from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, June 16 through July 2.
  • Beginning Spanish through Drama is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 17-26, with play presentation at 5 p.m. on June 26 in Ray Karrer Theater. The class will be offered from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, July 14-17, with play presentation at 5 p.m. in Ray Karrer Theater. Students can learn Spanish while appearing in a one-act play and learn the basics of the language.
  • Get Energized About Electronics allows students to build their own take home electronic project. The class will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 23-26. The class fee includes a soldering iron kit and radio kit.
  • Kidz Home Alone teaches appropriate responses to unusual situations when kids are home alone or with brothers and sisters. Topics will include the importance of emergency phone numbers; the reasons to call 911; first aid and safety; CPR instruction; the self Heimlich Maneuver, why house rules are necessary, fire escape planning, and severe weather planning. The session runs from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Wednesday, June 23-25.
  • Wirewrapping shows students how to create fun, simple jewelry using hands, natural stones and wire. Supplies are included. The class will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, July 7-10.
  • Beading allows students to make finished beaded jewelry that is theirs to keep and enjoy. All hand tools will be provided by the instructor. The class meets from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, July 7-10.
  • Awesome T-Shirt Transfers lets students take digital photos and transfer them for take home use on a T-shirt. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday through Friday, July 16-18.
  • Crocheting offers instruction to make small pieces such as a potholder, a small pouch or even a shawl. Yarn and crocheting needles are included and the project is for take home use and enjoyment. This class meets from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, July 21-30.
