Chamber Singers spring concert Tuesday, April 11

Published or Revised April 06, 2006

The Paris Junior College Chamber Singers will be presented in their annual spring concert on Tuesday, April 11, in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church in Paris. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and offer a beautiful repertoire of sacred favorites and solos by members of this elite choral group. Long-time PJC accompanist Charles Shelton will be featured at the recently installed organ console on several organ solos chosen specifically to showcase additional new stops added to this fine instrument. According to PJC choral director Pat Fowzer, this has been an especially exciting year for the Chamber Singers. They were chosen to sing the National Anthem at a Texas Rangers ballgame for the third year in a row. They will perform the anthem on Saturday evening, April 8, right before game time between the Rangers and the Detroit Tigers. "It is not an easy task to be chosen for this honor, " Fowzer said, "but this year's group has been very diligent in their rehearsals, and it should be evident in their performance both at the Ranger's game and their final concert of the year." Some of the selections chosen for the performance at the First Presbyterian Church include "Peace Like A River" by Mack Wilberg; "Wait On The Lord" by Rosephanye Powell; "What Sweeter Music" by John Rutter, and "Be Still My Soul" by Ken Berg. Featured soloists for the evening will be National Association of Teachers of Singing semifinalists Glenn Pruitt singing, "It Is Enough," and Michael Moore singing, "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," All State Choir member Tiffany Edwards will sing, "How Great Thou Art." Also, a trio composed of sophomores April Black, Chace Holt, and Michael Moore will perform an exciting acappella arrangement of, "The Doxology." This trio, better known as "New Horizon", was also chosen to sing the National Anthem at a Texas Rangers ballgame later this summer. Members of the PJC Chamber Singers are Charity Blassingame, Slade Burgess, April Black, Tiffany Edwards, Lance Fletcher, Lisa Frazier, Chace Holt, Jamaal Jones, Samantha House, Michael Moore, Amber Orr, Whitney Palmer, Glenn Pruitt, and Zac Ressler, Krystal Robinson, Dori Somerville, Alicia Thomas, Meshaya Wallace. Also, singing with the Chamber Singers will be three PJC faculty members. They are: Mike Benningfield, Cathy Huey, and Betty Swasko.
