System Administrator - Information Technology
Responsibilities: This position will play a critical role in managing, automating, and maintaining the college’s server-based services. This position requires a deep understanding of Active Directory infrastructure, including the design, management, and continuous optimization of directory services. Expertise in PowerShell scripting is essential for this role, as complex automation tasks will be regularly employed to streamline operations, deploy updates, and enhance overall system efficiency. In addition to automation, the Systems Administrator will be responsible for overseeing imaging and deployment solutions to ensure that workstations and servers are consistently configured and maintained to PJC’s standards. Familiarity with modern imaging tools and techniques is crucial, allowing for efficient deployment and lifecycle management of PC’s across campus. This role also demands a proactive approach to system performance and security, where the administrator will monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot both server and network services to guarantee high availability and reliability. Strong skills in backup and disaster recovery are required, with the Systems Administrator expected to design, manage, and test comprehensive backup solutions that ensure business continuity in case of failures or emergencies.
Qualifications: Applicant must have an Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in server administration, with a focus on automation and scripting. Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CompTIA Server+, or equivalent) are a plus. Advanced expertise in PowerShell scripting and automation for system administration tasks. Strong experience in managing Windows Server environments and Active Directory, including Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP. Proficiency in implementing and maintaining backup and disaster recovery solutions. Deep understanding of network security practices, patch management, and system monitoring. Experience with Office 365 and Azure Active Directory, including hybrid environments. Ability to design and execute automation strategies that improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention. Experience with Hyper-V virtualization for server management. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and documentation abilities.
Salary: The minimum annual salary for this position is $70,000 and the actual starting salary will be dependent upon education and experience of the chosen candidate.
Fringe Benefits: This position covers health insurance at 100% for employee. Additional optional coverages include dental, vision, AD&D, life insurance, and long- and short-term disability. Other benefits include retirement under the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, accrued sick leave, vacation, paid holidays, and an employee reimbursement/dependent scholarship program. Health benefits require a 60-day employment period.
