Alcohol & Drug Abuse Prevention
Paris Junior College prohibits the unlawful use, possession, distribution, or manufacture of alcohol and controlled substances on College property or at College-sponsored activities. Students are expected to comply with all local, state, and federal laws, as well as College policies.
Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs in a manner that disrupts the learning environment or endangers others is also prohibited.
Violations may result in disciplinary action under the Student Code of Conduct and may also subject a student to criminal penalties.
The use of alcohol and drugs can have serious short- and long-term effects, including:
- Impaired judgment, coordination, and decision-making
- Increased risk of accidents, injury, and violence
- Physical health issues, including organ damage
- Mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, and addiction
- Negative academic outcomes, including poor performance and withdrawal
Substance abuse can significantly impact a student’s ability to succeed.
Violations of federal and Texas laws regarding alcohol and controlled substances may result in:
- Fines and court costs
- Loss of driving privileges
- Criminal charges (misdemeanor or felony)
- Possible incarceration
Additional penalties may apply for offenses such as providing alcohol to minors or driving under the influence.
Students who violate alcohol or drug policies may be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct (FMA/FLB), which may include:
- Warning or disciplinary probation
- Required education or counseling
- Suspension or expulsion
- Referral to law enforcement
Sanctions are determined based on the severity and circumstances of the violation.

Students are encouraged to seek help early. In many cases, support services are available before issues escalate.
The College provides ongoing education and prevention efforts, including orientation, campus programming, and awareness initiatives designed to promote informed decision-making.
All current students will receive an email regarding alcohol & drug abuse prevention training in their Dragon student email.
