Yes. For security, and to comply with Texas Administrative Code §202.76, all PJC employees are required to register with an MFA method starting March 23rd, 2026. Student accounts will be announced at a later date.
A different authenticator app can be used at the user's discretion, but PJC IT only supports the Microsoft Authenticator. You also have the option to set up SMS messaging.
No. You can perform multi-factor authentication with any phone using the SMS (text message) method. The Microsoft Authenticator app provides the best experience and options for multi-factor authentication, and it can be installed on any iOS or Android tablet or smart phone with an internet connection. Internet service is required for the setup of the app and the verification notifications.
All PJC services that use our Single Sign On (SSO) log in. Services include, but are not limited to, Outlook (email), Blackboard, and MyPJC.
We have a reset process set up to allow users to verify themselves and reset their MFA settings once our official enforcement date begins. If this does not work, you can reach out to tech support by emailing us at techsupport@parisjc.edu
No. The authenticator is set to remember your authentication for 30 days before forcing you to reauthenticate. Exceptions may occur if Microsoft detects unusual sign in activity (such as using a different computer, web browser, etc.)
Yes, you can. We recommend every user registers with multiple methods, which includes multiple devices.
You should use the backup feature inside the Microsoft Authenticator app. You can also register both an authentication phone and an alternative phone to ensure you don’t lose access to your account. In the event that you cannot do these things and you get a new phone and number, multi-factor authentication can be reset through a call or email to Tech Support.

You can choose to recieve text message. The authenticator app typically provides the best and fastest experience.
You will choose a primary authentication method when you register for multi-factor authentication. You can update the primary method at any time. PJC IT recommends using the Microsoft Authenticator app with push notifications as it provides the best user experience.
Authentication options include:
- Mobile notifications with the Microsoft Authenticator app – a push notification is sent to the authenticator app on your phone asking you to authenticate your log in.
- Verification code with the Microsoft Authenticator app – the mobile Microsoft Authenticator app will generate a verification code that updates every 30 seconds. You will be asked to enter the most current verification code in the sign-on screen to complete the authentication process.
- Text messages – a text message with a six-digit code is sent to your mobile device that you will input in the sign-on screen to complete the authentication process.
