The Dragon golf team finished their season in seventh place at the District II National Junior College Athletic Association Championships held at Diamondback Golf Club In Abilene Monday and Tuesday, April 27-28. Though the team just missed qualifying for the national tournament, one player will compete as an individual at the tournament and several brought home individual honors. The Dragons posted team scores of 286, 300 and 298 for a team total of 884. The team was led by Logan Dent who had scores of 68,72 and 77. Collin Thompson fired rounds of 71,78 and 70. Other Dragon scorers were Grayson Benavides 74-74-73, Tyler Dunbar 73-75-78 and Harley Snelsen 80-90-79. "The district that we play in is extremely talented and all six teams that finished ahead of us are ranked in the top 15 nationally," said PJC Golf Coach David Johnson. The tournament scores are added to those from last week's tournament to determine the five teams that will advance to the National Championship. PJC finished in sixth place overall and just missed qualifying for the NJCAA National Tournament. PJC golfer Grayson Benavides will advance to the tournament by virtue of his six round total. He placed tenth individually and will go to Newton, Kansas in two weeks. The Region XIV NJCAA Championship is held in conjunction with the Southwest and District II tournaments and the Dragons Team finished as Region XIV Runners Up (1783 total), finishing five shots behind Tyler (1778 total). Named to the five-man All Region XIV Team was freshman Grayson Benavides (73, 70, 75, 74, 74, 73) who took first place honors and was the Region XIV Medalist. Also making the All Region XIV Team were sophomores Logan Dent, who took second place (77, 72, 76, 68, 72, 77), and Collin Thompson (80, 74, 74, 71, 78, 70), who finished in fourth place.
