Seventeen students from area high schools were recently awarded $1000 scholarships from the Rotary Club of Paris United. The students will all attend Paris Junior College in the 2017-2018 academic year. "The Rotary Club of Paris United has offered our most prestigious scholarship to these recipients, with the scholarship covering educational expenses such as tuition, fees, books, room and board," said Rotary's Scholarship Committee Chairman Vicki Ballard. "This scholarship can be the springboard to obtaining a higher education and preparing the students for their chosen careers. I personally feel there is no better place to start your college career than right here at Paris Junior College." The scholarships are designed to cover expenses such as tuition, fees, books, and room and board and are split between the fall and spring semesters. PJC Director of Student Life Kenneth Webb joined Ballard to address the students about their responsibilities while at PJC. They explained students are expected to demonstrate leadership and need to attend one Rotary meeting a semester; attend PJC Student Government Association meetings and assist with SGA activities, and maintain a cumulative 3.0 grade point average. Joining Ballard were Rotary Scholarship Committee members Kristen Bollman, Andy Cobb, and Laura Spencer. Rotary scholarship recipients are listed below, by school.
