The Rotary Club of Paris United recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to 20 area high school students attending Paris Junior College in the 2015-2016 school year. The scholarships are designed to cover educational expenses such as tuition, fees, books, and room and board and are split between the fall and spring semesters. Rotary Scholarship Committee co-chair Connie Stauter and PJC Director of Student Life Kenneth Webb spoke to the students about their responsibilities at a meeting at PJC. They explained that the students are expected to demonstrate leadership and are required to help with the Paris fireworks show held to celebrate the Fourth of July, attend one Rotary meeting a semester, attend PJC Student Government Association meetings and assist with the group’s activities, and maintain a cumulative 3.0 grade point average. Also present was Rotary Club President Susan Chapman and scholarship committee co-chair Vicki Ballard, who joined Stauter in letting the students know more information about the program, expectations, and their meeting schedules.
