Six freshmen are joining the Paris Junior College Dragon men’s basketball team this season. Eric Tramiel and Gene Baker, both of Fair Park High School in Shreveport, La., Orlando Allen of Woodward High in Cincinnati, Ohio, Bryan Singleton of Hahnville, La., Courtney Waters of Quitman, and Tyris Dowell of Avinger are the new signees, according to Coach Ross Hodge. Hodge said he looks forward to working with these young players. “There is a lot of talent in this group and I think they will be able to contribute to our success this season,” Hodge said. Tramiel and Baker played on the Fair Park High School team that won the Louisiana Class 3A title last season. Tramiel, a 6-5 forward, was the state tournament MVP and was named to the All-State team. Baker, a 6-2 wing, was named first team All-District. Allen, a 6-11 post player, was among the most highly recruited big players last spring after enjoying great success in high school. Singleton was the Class 5-A Player of the Year in Louisiana last year. The 6-1 point guard led his Hahnville team to a final four appearance. Waters, a 6-2 guard, was named first team All-District, All-Region and honorable mention All-State at nearby Quitman. Dowell, a 6-1 guard, is an outstanding basketball and track athlete. He was a first team selection on district, region and state Class A basketball teams. Dowell was also the gold medal winner at the Class A state track meet last year.
