The call goes out to tell a story, sing a song

Published or Revised September 12, 2005

A casting call has been made to fill parts in the upcoming Paris Junior College musical production, "Tell Me A Story - Sing Me A Song." Director John Presley Wright has put out a call for "everyone and anyone interested in performing on stage" to attend the tryout Thursday at 6 p.m. in room 160 of the PJC Administration Building. There are singing and non-singing parts for all ages in the production, according to Wright. The musical is an original and was first performed in 1989 for the Northeast Texas Heritage Festival. It will be directed again by Wright, who wrote the musical based on the life and inspirations of Dr. William A. Owens, a distinguished graduate and alumnus of PJC. Wright worked with Lon Chafin, formerly choir director at PJC, to write the music for the production. This fall is the 100th anniversary of the late Dr. Owens' birth, and the musical will be part of both the Veteran's Day Celebration and PJC homecoming activities on Nov. 11 and 12. "What a perfect time for this musical to be performed over Veteran's Day," Wright said. "The musical is about Dr. Owens' last visit before shipping out overseas in World War II."
