PJC’s 95th graduation held virtually

The 95th spring graduation ceremony of Paris Junior College presented a marked departure from the past, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic and PJC's closure mandated by the State of Texas. Instead of an in-person ceremony at Noyes Stadium, a virtual graduation video was released on Friday, May 22, 2020, to honor the graduates.

While most sophomores at Paris Junior College have finished their online classes and applied for graduation, students in some workforce programs will return on Monday, May 18, 2020 as part of a phased-in reopening process.

PJC to hold virtual graduation May 22

Paris Junior College graduates will be recognized in a virtual commencement ceremony on May 22, 2020. Students are being offered curbside pickup of their caps and gowns. They are also being asked to submit a photo to be made into a video of the graduation ceremony.

National Champion Coach Bill Foy returns to PJC

Former Paris Junior College Head Men’s Basketball Coach and 2005 National Coach of the Year Bill Foy is returning to PJC in the dual roles of Athletic Director and Men’s Basketball Coach, effective May 1, 2020. In 2005, Foy led the Dragons to a National Junior College Athletic Association championship title.

At a video-conference meeting on April 27, 2020 the Paris Junior College Board of Regents adopted a Curriculum Committee recommendation to add Learning Framework (EDUC/PSYC 1300 or 1100) and Computer Literacy (BCIS 1305 or COSC 1301) to the College's Core Curriculum.

PJC 3D Printing Lab makes PPE face shields for PRMC

The 3D printing lab at Paris Junior College has been kept busy turning out plastic face shields for health care workers at Paris Regional Medical Center. Some 100 were expected to be finished by mid-April, with another 100 at the end of April, 2020. The shields follow a previous PJC donation of face masks, gowns, booties and medical hair covers from PJC Health Occupations programs earlier in April.

On April 28, 2020 Paris Junior College will join over 143 nonprofit organizations throughout north and east Texas as part of East Texas Giving Day. Again this year, a generous anonymous donor has stepped up to match up the first $5,000 raised. Pre-scheduled gifts begin on Monday, April 6.

PJC opens remote registration for summer classes

Registration is now open at Paris Junior College for the May mini-term and other 2020 summer semesters. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the college continues to operate in a remote environment but those wishing to register may contact the college by email or phone. PJC is also offering a scholarship covering tuition for one Summer I or Summer II class to all graduating high school seniors in the five-county PJC service area.

Although there are no cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) at Paris Junior College, there are some confirmed cases in nearby counties. Paris Junior College sophomores Zach Norris and Rachael Gray were named Mr. & Miss PJC 2020 on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020 during halftime of the men’s basketball game in the Hunt Center. Faculty and staff nominate students for this honor.

A&M-Texarkana and Paris Junior College Renew Agreements

Officials from Texas A&M University-Texarkana and Paris Junior College recently met on the Paris Junior College campus to renew a memorandum of understanding as well as a dual admissions agreement, a financial aid consortium agreement, and an articulation agreement between the two schools. These documents and agreements make it possible for students who complete their Associate of Science degree at PJC to have a seamless path to earning a Bachelor of Science degree at A&M-Texarkana. The two institutions held a ceremony on January 29, 2020 and the documents were signed by PJC President Dr. Pam Anglin and A&M-Texarkana Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. David Yells.
