Section: SoftballThe Softball Coaching StaffHead Coach Brian Smith
“My career path includes softball, and it’s what I love to do,” Smith said. “Volleyball was a way for me to stay active, but I’ve been looking forward to leading a good program and getting the chance to be a part of a successful softball team.” Smith and his wife Misty, 8-year-old daughter Brooklyn and 11-month-old son Cayden will make their move to Texas this summer after the school year ends. Assistant Coach Mimi Randolph
Randolph coached the infield and catchers at SFA, which finished third in the nation in double-plays per game during her year there. The team was 28th in triples per game, won 12 conference games, and had 13 players named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll and one to the All-Academic Team. In 2005-2006 Randolph was a graduate assistant at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., where she pursued a master’s degree in political science. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Tulsa. Randolph began her collegiate softball career as a catcher at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, which she attended from 1998 to 2001. During her final season there she hit .239 and posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, with no errors in 95 chances. Randolph spent her 2002-2003 season at the University of Tulsa, where she committed just one error in 123 chances for a .992 fielding percentage, as she helped the Golden Hurricane to its best season in nearly every statistical category. Tulsa won 15 Western Athletic Conference games that season, just a year after posting only three WAC wins. It was the largest one-year improvement in league victories since the WAC first sponsored softball in 1991. Tulsa finished the year tied for second in the conference. Volunteer Assistant Jack Butler
He is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where he played softball. While in the military, he coached baseball and was recreation officer for the 16th Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division, “The Big Red One.” He and his wife Ann have three sons and one daughter.
