Academic Advising at PJC
Academic advising at Paris Junior College (PJC) helps you choose the right courses, stay on track for graduation, and plan for transfer or career success.
Advising is a partnership. While PJC provides guidance and degree plans, students are responsible for understanding and meeting their academic requirements.

What Advising Provides
Academic advising supports:
-
Degree planning and Guided Pathways
-
Course selection aligned with your declared major
-
Transfer planning
-
Understanding academic standing
-
Review of Texas Success Initiative (TSI) status
-
Awareness of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements
Advisors help you register for courses that apply to your credential. However, students are ultimately responsible for ensuring courses meet graduation requirements.
Your Responsibilities as a Student
Under FLB (LOCAL) – Students’ Rights & Responsibilities, students are responsible for complying with College policies and academic requirements.
Students must:
-
Know the requirements of their declared degree or certificate
-
Review the official College Catalog and Student Handbook
-
Monitor GPA and academic standing
-
Understand financial aid eligibility requirements
-
Confirm transfer plans with the receiving institution
Enrollment in a course does not guarantee that the course will apply toward your degree if it is not part of your declared program.
Texas Success Initiative (TSIA)
Per Texas Education Code and institutional policy, students must meet TSIA requirements unless exempt. Placement determines eligibility for college-level coursework and may require developmental education.
Read more about the TSIA testing and requirements.
Transfer Planning
Students planning to transfer should:
-
Declare transfer intentions early
-
Follow AA or AS degree plans when appropriate
-
Confirm transfer requirements with the receiving university
Completion of the Texas Core Curriculum supports transfer within Texas public institutions, but requirements may vary by institution.
Paris Junior College provides academic advising and student support services consistent with its mission and in compliance with SACSCOC Standard 12.1 (Student Support Services) and Standard 12.2 (Student Support Programs).
