Paris Junior College is committed to keeping higher education affordable and accessible. Tuition and required fees vary depending on a student’s residency status, course load, and the type of program in which the student is enrolled. Detailed information about current tuition rates, fees, payment deadlines, and refund policies is available on the College’s Tuition & Fees webpage.

Repeated Course Fee (Three-Peat Rule)

State law limits the formula funding Texas public colleges receive for undergraduate courses attempted by the same student more than twice. As a result, Paris Junior College assesses a supplementary fee to students who enroll in a course for the third or subsequent time.

For any course being attempted for the third time or more, students will be charged a tuition rate of $140 per credit hour. Students will be notified at the time of registration when a course has been previously attempted twice and is subject to the tuition rate above.

A course is considered "attempted" if the student was enrolled as of the official census date for that semester, regardless of whether the student later withdrew. Courses dropped prior to the census date do not count toward the three-attempt limit.

Courses Exempt from the Repeated Course Fee

The following types of hours are not subject to the repeated course fee, in accordance with Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Rules (Chapter 13, Subchapter F, §13.106):

  • Remedial and developmental courses and/or interventions, up to 27 semester credit hours
  • Special topics and seminar courses
  • Courses that involve different or more advanced content each time they are taken, including individual music lessons, music performance, ensembles, theater practicum, certain physical education and kinesiology courses, studio art, and Workforce Education special topics courses when the topic changes
  • Independent study courses
  • Courses repeated in the student's final semester or term before graduation, when the course is repeated solely to satisfy a degree requirement (this exemption applies for one semester only)

Hardship Waiver

Students who believe payment of the repeated course fee would create an economic hardship may request a waiver. Contact the Business Office for information about the waiver process.

Students who officially withdraw or reduce their course load may be eligible for a tuition and fee refund. Refund amounts are determined by the number of class days that have passed since the start of the term, and vary by term length. Refunds are issued based on the Refund Choice selected by the student in MyPJC.

For the full refund schedule, visit our Refunds page.

Many students qualify for financial assistance to help cover the cost of college. Paris Junior College participates in federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs that may include grants, scholarships, work-study opportunities, and student loans. Eligibility for most forms of financial aid begins with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each academic year.

Students are encouraged to apply early and review all available funding opportunities. In addition to traditional financial aid, PJC offers a variety of scholarships through the College and the PJC Foundation, as well as specialized support programs that may provide additional financial assistance for eligible students.

Students who have questions about paying for college are encouraged to contact the PJC Financial Aid Office, where staff members are available to help students understand their options and navigate the financial aid process.

Paris Junior College recognizes that certain students may qualify for exemptions or waivers from tuition and fees based on eligibility criteria established by the State of Texas. Qualifying categories may include, but are not limited to, foster care graduates, dual credit students, veterans and their dependents, students with documented disabilities, and other groups identified under Texas Education Code.

Students who believe they may qualify are encouraged to contact the Admissions or Financial Aid office to discuss eligibility and required documentation. Exemptions and waivers are not automatically applied — students must initiate the request each semester and provide supporting documentation as required.

For a full list of applicable exemptions and waivers, visit the PJC Board Policy FD (Tuition and Fees).

The PJC Financial Aid Office is located on the Paris Campus in the Administration Building. However, we do have Financial Aid Advisors available on each of our campuses:
