PJC’s top athletes honored during annual program

Baseball all-star Andrew Brown received the McLemore Cup, and softball player Carlee Suchy was presented the Bobby Walters Cup at the Athletic Awards Program held this week at the college. Brown, a sophomore first baseman from Carrolton, won the McLemore Cup as the overall most valuable player in all sports. Brown carried a batting average of over .400 this season and has signed a letter of intent to continue his college career at the University of Nebraska. Suchy, a two-year starter for the Lady Dragon softball team, carried a 3.94 grade point average to capture the Bobby Walters Cup, recognizing the athlete with the highest GPA. Suchy is from Purcell, Okla. LaKeisha Jones won the Don Wilhelm Cup as the women's most valuable basketball player, while Alexander Starr was presented the Carol Dawson Cup as the men's most valuable player. Brown received a second award, the Barney Bray Cup, as the baseball MVP. Kee Dae Lee was presented the Mickey Flippen Cup as the Dragon golf team's MVP, and Casie Smith won softball's Vernon Carter Cup as the MVP of her team.
