David Johnson named PJC athletic director

A familiar face is taking on a new title with the announcement that Paris Junior College Golf Coach David Johnson has been named athletic director. He will begin in that role on Aug 1 while continuing as golf coach. Also hired is Corey Lyon for the position of women's softball coach. "I am pleased to announce the promotion of David Johnson to the position of athletic director at Paris Junior College," said PJC President Dr. Pamela Anglin. "I have great confidence in David's ability to oversee the athletic programs at Paris Junior College and know that he will act in the best interest of the college and our student-athletes." "We are also excited to have Corey Lyon joining us as women's softball coach," Dr. Anglin added. "I believe he is the person to build PJC's softball program into one of the finest in the country." Johnson has been coach and instructor of kinesiology since 2005. He received his bachelor of science in kinesiology from Howard Payne University in Brownwood and master of education from Tarleton State University in Stephenville. Prior to coming to PJC, he was an instructor and coach at Cisco Junior College in Cisco, Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, and Navarro College in Corsicana. Johnson was an NJCAA All-American offensive lineman at Cisco in football and later played at Texas Christian University when it was a member of the Southwest Conference. Lyon received a bachelor of science from Kansas Newman College in Wichita, Kan., and master of education from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan. He taught and coached at the Renwick School District in Andale, Kan., and has been dean of students and coach of softball at The Independent School, a private school in Wichita, Kan. He has coached girls' softball in a traveling league for a number of years. Lyon will be moving to Paris from Wichita with his wife and three young daughters.
