Encore! celebrates 15th anniversary with showcase

Encore!, Paris Junior College's award-winning show choir, will celebrate its 15th anniversary with a song and dance showcase this week designed around music that will appeal to children and the young at heart. The show entitled, "Be Our Guest, Experience the Magic!" will be staged at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings in the Ray Karrer Theatre on the PJC campus. There will be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. This year's theme will feature music made famous by animated movies and kid-friendly television and state presentations. Movies including "The Lion King," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin," "The Prince of Egypt," and "Mulan." Encore! will also salute a movie musical about the paperboy strike of the early 1900s entitled, "Newsies." Under the direction of Pat Fowzer, PJC choral director, the 20 members of Encore! have choreographed, costumed and designed the set for this show. Tickets are $3 per person. Anyone with a valid PJC ID is admitted free. Tickets can be purchased in advance in the PJC Music Building, room 108, and at Newman Towne and Country Realty. Tickets may be reserved by calling 903-782-0343. Tickets are also available at the door for each performance. Encore members include April Black, Steven Faulkner, Cari Fortenberry, Jay Hardy, Amanda Harrison, Chace Holt, Jenna Iglehart, Jamaal Jones, Shelby Kate Jones, Codie Kohler, Cody McDowell, Michael Moore, Micah Morton, Amanda Pearson, Chuey Potter, Glenn Pruitt, and Shawna Simpson, all of Paris; Steven Fontenot, Greenville; James Green, Quinlan; and LaShakea Polk, Clarksville. Pearson and Fontenot choreographed the show and Trina McKee serves as the Encore! assistant.
