Published or Revised May 07, 2009

Dr. Pam Anglin, president of Paris Junior College, presented the 2009 Nurse of the Year award Tuesday to Erica Farmer Westbrooks. A Powderly native, Westbrooks has been a nurse for 10 years. She works in Paris Regional Medical Center's Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. "We are so pleased at PJC to be able to help recognize the outstanding medical personnel we have in Lamar County," said Dr. Anglin. "Mrs. Westbrooks is a great example of the quality healthcare provided here." "Mrs. Westbrooks is always willing to help others," said PJC Director of Health Occupations Marcia Putnam, "and never says a bad word about anyone. She always puts her patients first, is a team player and loves health care." Westbrooks, she said, is dedicated and committed to her job as a nurse. "Building a Healthy America" is the national theme for Nurses Week. At the awards luncheon, PRMC administrators and co-workers, friends and family joined PJC staff to honor Ms. Westbrooks, who is a graduate of PJC's Associate Degree Nursing program. She was also recently honored with the Daisy Award, a new program adopted by PRMC to honor exceptional nurses on the hospital staff. Established by the Paris Junior College School of Nursing, the Lamar County Nurse of the Year award honors and recognizes rank and file nurses who do their best each day to meet the healthcare needs of the people in our community. The event was co-sponsored by Sanofi-Aventis, Paris Regional Medical Center, Chapman's Florist and Paris Junior College.
