Four sign letters of intent for the Lady Dragons

Published or Revised May 09, 2005

Paris Junior College women's basketball coach Scott Hyland has announced the signing of four high school athletes to letters of intent to play for the Lady Dragons next season. Kristin Ford of North Crowley High School, Charinee Mitchell of Tyler Robert E. Lee, Latoya Hawkins of Everman and Brittany Williams of Sam Houston High School in Arlington will continue their academic and basketball careers at PJC next fall. Ford, a 5-11 post, averaged 11 points and 6 rebounds last season and was named to the All-District team. Hyland said Ford is a physical post player who rebounds and defends very well. Mitchell, a 5-4 guard from Tyler, will add to the up-tempo game Hyland says he plans to instill next season. She averaged 8.5 points, 2.3 assists and 2 steals a game for the Rebels. "We feel that Mitchell's speed, shooting ability and ball handling skills will fit into our game plan well," Hyland said. Hawkins, a 5-5 point guard, was All-Region and All-District at Everman last season. She averaged 13.6 points per game. She was named District Newcomer of the year in 2003-2004. Hyland said Hawkins is an explosive player who scores and creates opportunities for others, as well as being a skilled ball handler. Williams, a 5-11 wing, averaged 13.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for Arlington Sam Houston last season. Hyland said her size and athleticism allow her to guard anybody at the defensive end. "We are pleased that these student/athletes have made a decision to attend PJC and play for the Lady Dragons," Hyland said.
