Guest artist holds one-day pop-up exhibit, talk at PJC

Published or Revised April 05, 2022

Katie Johnson will hold a one-day pop-up exhibit and reception on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Paris Junior College. She will give a talk during the reception in the Foyer Gallery between 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to this free event.

Johnson is a mixed media artist and interior designer who lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, three children, and two dogs.

"When the world shut down site visits and client meetings turned into Zoom calls," Johnson said, "home stylings were on hold and I needed a new creative outlet. I found that reworking a piece until it achieves balance is both meditative and fulfilling."

Her mission is to share the good news of the gospel through art. She found that creating art was a saving grace during the shut-down.

"I use repurposed materials not only to reduce waste but also to reflect how as believers we are reborn into a new creature," Johnson said. "The process of pushing through the intimidation of a blank canvas is cathartic in so many ways. I do it for the process and the message it shares."
