Jason Timmis wins both McLemore, Flippen Cups

Jason Timmis, sophomore golfer from Stoke-On-Trent, England, was named winner of the prestigious McLemore Cup as the top athlete from all PJC sports programs during the All-Sports Awards ceremony at Paris Junior College Tuesday. In addition, Timmis received the Mickey Flippen Cup for being the designated MVP for golf and was named to the All-Region team. PJC Athletic Director and Golf Coach Dave Johnson presented the awards. Jordan Barry, sophomore softball player from Frisco, won the Bobby Walters Cup for having the highest GPA among athletes. Barry posted a 3.78 GPA. This award was presented by PJC President Dr. Pamela Anglin. The Vernon Carter Cup for softball MVP went to Makesa Richey of Fate. Softball Coach Corey Lyons also announced that five players received All-Region honors for the year: sophomores Shay Ristau of Denton, Makesa Richey of Fate, and Jessica Wilson of Irving, and freshman Kaci Crawford of Paris and Megan Brigance of Flower Mound. Softball players named as All-Academic team members include Jordan Barry, Kasey Cantu, Makesa Richey and Jessica Wilson. Brittany Bennett, sophomore women's basketball player from Del City, Okla., was named MVP and received the Don Wilhelm Cup. Kristopher Wood, PJC Lady Dragons basketball coach, made the presentation and announced that Bennett also received All-Region honors. Taylor Ammons of Vicksburg, Miss., was recognized for Honorable Mention – All Conference. Kenny Gabriel of Charlotte, N.C., was given the Carroll Dawson Cup for being named men's basketball MVP. Gabriel was also recognized for All-Conference, All-Region and Region XIV Tournament team honors by Coach Ross Hodge. Shannon Shorter of Houston was given the Bobby Walters Leadership Award and received All-Conference and Region XIV All-Tournament recognition. Demarkus Wilson of Carrollton and Latay Darden of Norfolk, Va., were announced as Co-Defensive Players of the Year. Raymond Sims from Philadelphia, Penn., gained All-Conference and All-Region honors. Caleb Dean of Novi, Mich., was presented a Screener Award. Jonathan Simmons of Houston was honored for All-Conference achievement. Dragons Baseball Coach Deron Clark awarded the Barney Bray Cup for baseball MVP to Justin Miller of Paris, and recognized David Carpenter for All-Conference Pitcher honors. Baseball players named as All-Academic team members include Zach Steed, Nick Stelte, Tomas Mercado Solano and Abe Williams. Kaitlin Vasquez of Garland won the Volleyball MVP Cup, presented by PJC Volleyball Coach Justin Maness. Vasquez, along with Stefanie Barnett and Logan Anglin of Paris, Jamie McFatridge of Brookston, Amber Cantu-Curry of South Padre and Morganne Fikes of Rowlett received Region XIV All-Conference honors. Most Valuable Player winners are chosen each year by their team members.
