Roan Oak Masonic Lodge awards nursing scholarship

Published or Revised September 10, 2009

The Roan Oak Masonic Lodge in Garrett's Bluff, Texas, has selected Juli Ann Wright of Paris as recipient of its 2009-2010 nursing scholarship. "The members of the Lodge were able to raise the funds for the scholarship thanks to a generous donation of a cattle guard by Greg Hodnett, 2T Manufacturers and donations from area residents," said Allen Tapp, the lodge's scholarship chairman. A graduate of Paris High School, Wright is in her second year in the Paris Junior College Nursing Program and will graduate in May 2010 with her associate of science degree in nursing. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and works part-time at the Pediatric Clinic at PCA-Primary Care Associates. "We chose to give this scholarship to a second-year nursing student because it shows commitment to make it through the first year and continue reaching toward a higher goal," said Tapp. The Roan Oak Masonic Lodge annually presents scholarships to PJC students to assist in furthering their education. The Lodge also awarded an agricultural scholarship last year. Ms. Wright, the daughter of Ricky and Kim Wright, plans to continue her education after PJC and earn her bachelor's and master's degrees through the University of Texas at Arlington. Like her older sister, Ms. Wright wants to return to Paris to work as a health care provider. The Roan Oak Masonic Lodge hosts various events throughout the year to raise funds to support worthwhile community needs. The annual "Fish Fry" will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the lodge in Garrett's Bluff. The community is invited to attend and enjoy a good meal while helping worthy causes.
