PJC Chorale grooves to the musicals April 14

The Paris Junior College Music Department continues its "Springtime in Paris" concert series with the Chorale presenting "Groovin' to the Modern Musicals" on Tuesday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Methodist Church of Paris, 322 Lamar Avenue. The Chorale will present excerpts from the musicals: [i]Mamma Mia,[/i] [i]Sweeney Todd[/i], [i]Jersey Boys[/i], [i]Little Shop of Horrors[/i], [i]The Phantom of the Opera[/i], and [i]Sweet Charity[/i]. In addition, the ladies of the Chorale will sign a beautiful rendition of [i]Summertime[/i] from the modern day opera [i]Porgy and Bess[/i]. Selected voice students of Patricia Fowzer and adjunct voice instructor Roger Bryant will perform solos from additional musicals such as [i]Rent[/i], [i]Showboat[/i], and [i]Les Miserables[/i]. These students include Cade Bailey, Cate Jones, Mallory Johnson, Clarissa Christensen and Josh Mooneyham. The group will close the concert with one of its most challenging numbers ever, [i]Gloria[/i] by Randol Alan Bass is taken from the 2009 Texas Two-Year College All-State Choir repertoire. This selection will be accompanied by area instrumentalists from Paris High School, North Lamar High School and Elizabeth Silva-Vazquez, a Paris Junior College music appreciation student. At the keyboards will be PJC Chorale accompanist Linda Flanary, with Thomas Belew assisting at the organ. The concert is free and open to the public.
