PJC Regents honor choir, band, basketball team

Published or Revised March 24, 2009

At the March meeting of the Paris Junior College Board of Regents Monday, recognition was received by outstanding students who made the All-State Choir, the All-State Band, and the Dragons basketball team tying for first place in the Region XIV North Zone and finishing second in the Region XIV tournament. "I commend you on what an outstanding job you have done representing Paris Junior College," said PJC Board President Paul Gene Roden. The Regents also approved a modest tuition increase of $1 per credit hour for in- and out-of-district students. General student fees remain unchanged. "With the increase, our tuition and fees will still be below the state average," PJC President Dr. Pamela Anglin told the board. "We want to stay as affordable as possible and still deliver high quality education." The Regents also modified lab fees and individual instruction fees, resulting in a small savings for most students. In her report to the Regents, Dr. Anglin said the Senate Finance Committee has approved a measure that would not totally fund the college's health insurance bill. She also said the federal stimulus plan requested projects that are "shovel-ready," and PJC put forth a $5 million request to complete HVAC renovation for the Paris campus. In other business, the Regents:
  • Approved employees participating in the local United Way in lieu of the State Employee Charitable Contribution Campaign, ensuring that all funds raised stay in the local area.
  • Approved modification of a 5 percent increase to the Aramark food service contract.
  • Granted a utility easement for lines to the new Paris High School.
  • Approved the hiring of Jessica Aragon as Upward Bound Advisor and Charles "Pete" Claypool as Coordinator/Instructor, Aircraft Mechanics Programs.
  • Accepted the resignations of Mistie Ford, Coordinator/Instructor of Medical Records Coding, and Lana Adams, Instructor of Criminal Justice.
  • Approved the re-employment of full-time faculty for 2009-2010.
The next meeting of the PJC Board of Regents will be April 27.
